Author Bio
After my father passed away, my mother and I owned a small resort in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. During the long, snowy winters when the resort was closed, we would sit by the crackling fire, and our conversations would turn to my grandfather, Nate. As the giant snowflakes fell outside, I began to truly understand the depth of my mother’s emotional pain—losing the father she loved and admired so much, being torn from her school, and returning to St. Paul only to face the angry newspaper reports that followed her to the classroom.
Through those quiet winter nights, I realized that my grandfather’s story needed to be written. It was a story of love, integrity, and tragedy that had shaped my family in ways I was only beginning to comprehend. Now, three decades later—after years of research and the loss of my mother—the pieces of this remarkable story are finally coming together. Writing The Shadow Journalist has been a journey of discovery, honoring my grandfather’s legacy while also understanding my mother’s enduring strength.
